Our ministry takes us to Christian colleges and churches in the mid-south. We contact the Bible Department/Missions Department of the colleges. Our aim is to acquaint the colleges with Cadence’s ministry and to recruit prospective missionaries to fill the many needs Cadence has. Sometimes we are asked to speak to a missions class where there is opportunity for questions and answers on a more personal level. Many of the schools have an annual missions conference and we are invited to share the ministry of Cadence there. We also present Cadence to churches to inform them of the military outreach and encourage retirees to “fill the gap” as short term missionaries. Sunday School classes especially have been a wonderful opportunity for sharing and encouraging involvement.
Biography of J. Dale & Marian Brock
Dale and Marian were born in northern Indiana (Marian-South Bend) (Dale-Elkhart). Marian was saved as a teenager and Dale was saved at age 21 after he had been in the navy for a couple of years. Dale went to college to prepare for the ministry. They were married in 1951 while both of them attended college. After graduating from seminary, Dale entered the navy as a Chaplain and served 30 years with the U.S. Navy on active and reserve duty. Marian was very active with the Protestant Women of the Chapel at stations where we served. When they were stationed in Japan, she worked at the mission headquarters of SEND. While Dale was Chaplain on reserve duty, he was also a pastor and was earning a Ph.D. in Biblical Studies. Having been previously acquainted with Cadence/OCSC while on active duty, they eagerly agreed when Cadence staff approached them to “fill the gap” as short termers. They have been with the mission since 1988 having served in Germany and Okinawa. They have been area representatives in the northwest and southeast and now mid-south areas of the United States. Their children are Beth and Paul Norman in Illinois, Linda Brock in Indiana, and David and Sandra Brock and their 3 children, Daniel, Sarah, and Matthew in Tennessee. As long as God gives strength and provides the need for representing Him through Cadence, it is their desire to keep on keeping on.
